# Managing Your Subscription

### Overview

This guide covers everything about managing your Skillmelo subscription—viewing status, updating payment methods, changing plans, and handling billing issues.

### Available Plans

### Viewing Your Subscription Status

#### From Your Profile

1. Click your avatar in the sidebar
2. Select **Profile**
3. View the **Subscription** section showing:
   * Current plan (Free, Pro Basic, or Pro Standard)
   * Billing cycle (Monthly or Annual)
   * Next billing date
   * Subscription status

#### From the Subscription Page

1. Navigate to **Settings → Subscription**
2. See detailed usage statistics
3. View remaining AI feature limits

### Changing Your Plan

#### Upgrading (Free → Pro Basic → Pro Standard)

1. Go to **Profile** or **Pricing**
2. Select your desired plan
3. Complete checkout
4. New features activate immediately

#### Downgrading

1. Access the Stripe billing portal via **Manage Subscription**
2. Select your lower tier plan
3. Change takes effect at the end of your current billing period
4. You keep your current plan's features until then

### Updating Payment Method

#### Step 1: Access Billing Portal

1. Go to **Profile**
2. Click **Manage Billing** or **Manage Subscription**
3. You'll be redirected to Stripe's secure portal

#### Step 2: Update Card

1. Click **Payment methods**
2. Add a new card or remove old ones
3. Set your default payment method
4. Changes apply to future charges

### Changing Billing Cycle

#### Switch from Monthly to Annual

Save money by switching to annual billing:

1. Access the Stripe billing portal
2. Click on your subscription
3. Select "Switch to annual"
4. Confirm the change

**Savings:**

* Pro Basic: Save $29.89/year
* Pro Standard: Save $49.89/year

**Note**: You'll be charged the annual rate immediately, with a prorated credit for your current monthly period.

#### Switch from Annual to Monthly

1. Access the Stripe billing portal
2. Click on your subscription
3. Select "Switch to monthly"
4. The change takes effect at your next renewal

### Viewing Invoices

#### In Stripe Portal

1. Click **Manage Billing**
2. Select **Billing history**
3. View or download any invoice as PDF

#### Via Email

All invoices are automatically sent to your registered email address after each charge.

### Understanding Your Bill

### Pausing Your Subscription

Currently, Skillmelo doesn't offer subscription pausing. Your options are:

* **Downgrade to a lower tier** - Keep some features at a lower cost
* **Cancel and resubscribe later** - You'll lose Pro features until you resubscribe
* **Keep subscription** - Pay and retain access even if not actively using

### Handling Failed Payments

#### What Happens

1. Initial payment fails
2. You receive an email notification
3. Stripe retries automatically over several days
4. If all retries fail, your subscription may be cancelled

#### How to Fix

1. Check your email for payment failure notices
2. Update your payment method in the billing portal
3. Ensure sufficient funds/credit
4. Contact your bank if they're blocking the charge

#### Grace Period

You typically have 3-7 days to fix payment issues before losing Pro access.

### Tax and VAT

#### US Customers

Sales tax may apply based on your state.

#### EU Customers

VAT is applied based on your country. Business customers can enter a VAT ID to have VAT removed.

#### Other Countries

Tax treatment varies by location and is handled automatically by Stripe.

### Getting a Receipt

All payment receipts are:

* Emailed automatically after each charge
* Available in the Stripe billing portal
* Downloadable as PDF for expense reporting

### Subscription FAQs

#### When am I charged?

* **Monthly**: Same day each month (e.g., subscribed on 15th = charged on 15th)
* **Annual**: Same date each year

#### What if I cancel mid-cycle?

You retain your current plan's access until the end of your billing period. No partial refunds.

#### Can I get a refund?

Within 7 days of initial signup, contact us for a full refund. After 7 days, refunds are at our discretion.

#### Will my price change?

Your rate is locked in for as long as you remain subscribed. Price changes only affect new subscribers.

#### Can I switch between Pro Basic and Pro Standard?

Yes! You can upgrade or downgrade at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades take effect at the end of your billing period.
